Extremity Adjustment

How does it work? In addition to adjusting the spine an adjustment would be performed on an arm, wrist, elbow or knee, ankle or hip. Also, TMJ adjustments are included in this category. Benefits to you – Putting proper motion in these joints is essential for decreasing the risk of degeneration to these areas and can influences muscle tone. Adjustments can also increases endorphin levels as well as other immune and biologic markers.

Can not be performed if any of the following conditions apply to you: Bone cancer or infection, Paget’s

Ultrasound

How Does It Work? Sound vibrations, as fast as a million times per second, penetrate the tissues deep in the body, creating a heat response.  These vibrations and heat help break down and disperse unhealthy calcium and other hard tissue accumulations.  Benefits to you -Highly effective in treating calcium deposition, stimulates healing without irritation, speeds metabolism and improves blood flow, reduces nerve root irritation, enhances body’s natural healing ability.

Reasons for use: Arthritis, tendonitis, bursitis, radiculitis, sprain/strain

Can not be performed if any of the following conditions apply to you: Pregnancy, open growth plates in children, over spinal cord or infectious areas.

Electrical Stimulation

How does it work? Small amounts of electrical currents are induced into the tissues for the purpose of reducing swelling.  This widely used technique safely strengthens muscles and helps reduce painful symptoms.  Patients generally feel a slight tingling sensation at first.  Since your body may become accustomed to the initial setting, the intensity may be raised during the course of your 10-20 minute treatment, to maximize the healing effect. Ice therapy can increase the depth of penetration of the electrotherapy. Benefits to you -Reduces pain sensation, helps decrease swelling, and promotes general muscle tone, speeds healing.

Can not be performed if any of the following conditions apply to you: Pacemaker, Pregnancy (low back), and Open Wounds at the pain site.

Ice Therapy

How does it work? Surface cooling constricts blood vessels, numbs painful areas, and helps relax muscle spasms.  Cold temperatures reduce nerve transmission of painful symptoms and provide temporary relief.  Benefits to you -Cooling affected tissues is effective in reducing and preventing posttraumatic swelling.  Local cooling should be applied several times a day during the initial stages of injury.

Can not be used longer than 20 minutes at a time.

Low Back Traction or Neck Traction

Neck aka cervical traction the patient lies face up on a bench table and a weight is hung from the top of the head while the patient lies on a round reinforcing pillow.

Low Back aka lumbar traction is used by lying face down on a specialized table, in which the lower piece is allowed to move in a pumping fashion. Benefits to you -Comfortable and relaxing, increased mobility, improves circulation and of spinal fluids, increases normal biomechanics of the spine. This allows for decrease pressure on the discs and nerves, as well as stretches the surrounding musculature.

Can not be performed if any of the following conditions apply to you: Acute conditions, dislocations or fractures, pregnancy or stroke.

Rehabilitative & Neuromuscular Exercises

Rehabilitation of the normal spinal curves is achieved by doing warm up exercises and stretching their muscles, ligaments and discs using the wobble chair and the repetitive cervical traction. The repetitive cervical traction and wobble chair produce hysteresis in the soft tissues by putting them through loading and unloading cycles. The repetitive cervical traction does this for the neck and the wobble chair does this for the low back.

Range of motion stretches need to be performed before any exercise, if at any time pain is felt the exercise should be stopped.

Paraffin Wax

How does it work? Paraffin wax is used in the treatment of sports related injuries and other conditions where heat therapy is needed.  Benefits to You – One of the overlooked benefits of paraffin therapy is that it soothes and moisturizes the skin, opens pores, increases circulation, and promotes a sense of calm in the patient. Some other conditions alleviated by paraffin are: arthritis, inflammation, spasms, scar tissue, and tendonitis. By painting the wax over the affected area it helps decrease pain and inflammation.

Can not be performed if any of the following conditions apply to you: Diabetes, active infections, decreased sensitivity to heat.
